Elite Dangerous Wiki:Templates for discussion

From Elite Dangerous Wiki

Templates for discussion is the local process for proposing deletion, merging or replacement of templates and Lua modules on Elite Dangerous Wiki.

Open a discussion

Check the documentation, history, redirects and incoming uses first. An apparently unused template can be substituted, called indirectly by Lua, or needed by historical revisions. Open a clearly headed discussion on the template's or module's talk page. Identify the exact page, the proposed action, affected callers and a practical replacement where applicable. Link Project:Deletion policy and explain the reason.

Use {{Tfd}} on a template, or {{Catfd}} on a category serving templates, to point editors to the local discussion. The optional discussion parameter can name a particular local discussion page or section. Notify the creator and regular maintainers on their user talk pages, without canvassing for a result.

Discuss and test

Consider keeping, documenting, fixing, merging or redirecting before deletion. Test changes in a sandbox, including representative article uses and dependent modules. Do not remove callers or empty a category merely to make a disputed page appear unused. Discussion is based on reasons and evidence, not a ballot or an imported deadline.

Close and implement

Record the outcome and reasoning on the same talk page. An uninvolved administrator should review disputed or destructive outcomes. Update callers and preserve attribution before merging or replacing code. Only an account with the actual local permission can delete or restore a page. Remove the active notice after closure and retain a link to the discussion in the edit summary or an appropriate talk-page record.
