Type 9 can hold a smaller shield generator, so shielded runs are not as hard on your cargo space as they are on a cutter. Not to mention, docking that ship isn't as hard as you believe it is.

I used to do lots of passenger missions, and some passengers didn't like getting scanned, so I had to regularly shoot a silent running Beluga through the mail slot without scratching the paint.
