No to be rude but sounds like you don't know how to fly cutter. It's a amazing trade ship for one, take a cutter to CG and you will easily get to the top percents in no time with your massive cargo bay, only the t10 has more and the t10 suffers from even worst jump range, manever power, and defenses.

Also you said a sidewinder could kill it. In theory a side window could kill any ship if the sidewinder pilot was good enough and the enemy pilots bad enough. I have killed conda's in PVP with a railgun winder. But any cutter pilot who knows their salt about their ship is just going to boost away and use FA off to joust the sidewinder. The sidewinder will be 100% defencless to this, too slow to chase, not enough damage to inflict even moderate damage during the joust.

A lot of people bring up the cost/rebuy when talking about trade ships. If you die in your trade cutter, or take hull damage. WTF ARE YOU DOING IN YOU CUTTER!? Even with a class 6 shield the speed, mass, and hull/shield strength should easily allow you avoid anything but the most determined gank squads. I alawys run CG's in my cutter because it's the safest ship for it. It allows me to bring large amounts of cargo without getting blown to smitherlines by the gankers like a t9/t10 would.

Also equiping a trade cutter cost almost nothing. Cargo bays and size 6 shields are pretty cheap compared to the asking price of the cutter, a small drop in the money pool. The only real heavy investment you should consinder is max level thrusters to escape PvP interdictions, maybe 8A shields if your super paranoid, but they are not needed. So I have to say if rebuy cost are a legit problem for you when your flying your cutter, than you flying the cutter wrong since if you do it right, no one should be able to kill you before your FSD charges up.
