Categories for discussion provides local editorial guidance for the independent Elite Dangerous Wiki. Apply it alongside community standards and existing local policies.
Propose a category change
Explain a proposed rename, merge, scope change or removal on the category talk page. Identify the existing category, proposed destination and pages affected. A handful of similar names does not by itself justify a new parallel category tree.
Review the impact
Check parent categories, subcategories and templates that add pages automatically. Seek input from affected editors. Prefer a coherent local hierarchy over copying another wiki's categories. Do not empty a disputed category merely to make it appear unused.
Implement the outcome
Record the result on the talk page, update affected pages and template code carefully, and request administrator help for deletion where needed. This page describes a local talk-page process, not an external discussion board. See Project:Categorization and Project:Deletion policy.
Notices and discussion records
Use {{Cfd}} on the affected page to identify the active local discussion. Supply discussion=Talk:Page title#Section, or the appropriate namespace talk page, when the discussion is in a particular section. Notify the creator and affected maintainers with a neutral message. A notice does not decide the outcome or start an automatic deletion countdown.
Record the outcome and reasons on the same talk page, then remove the active notice. Preserve useful history and attribution when merging or replacing content. Disputed deletion or restoration can be raised through Project:Deletion review.
