Why communism doesn't work you can see in Cuba (1953-2016), the Soviet Union (1922-1991), North-Korea (1946-2018) and Venezuela (since 2013 under Nicolás Maduro) and study economics . Without private property, the price mechanism and ways to make monetary calculations it causes chronic economic problems, malinvestment, waste and poverty.
The PRC is a one-party state with a communist regime. However, their economy is capitalistic. Before the PRC liberalized their market, much business was state-owned and the people were very poor. When they did economic reform and opened the market to foreign investment in the 1980s, western companies invested billions of dollars in the PRC. Millions of manufacturing jobs were exported from western countries to the PRC due to much lower wages and costs. So their rapid economic growth was caused by policies of economic liberalization and huge foreign investment of mostly western companies. This caused a major loss of jobs and the manufacturing industry in western countries. Also they have copied western products and technology.
The PRC is oppressive for human rights. Such as the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests , lack of democracy and censorship. The Great Leap Forward from 1958 to 1962 is estimated to have caused 30 million deaths. The forced labour camps (Laogai ) have caused more than 10 million deaths. So it is not a rolemodel for the world.
