From Elite Dangerous Wiki

"Think of it as like a retainer fee for a lawyer." - you got that all backwards

A fee is a set amount, that is tied to a certain deed; be that work by hour, or your fancy sticking-around-fee. Your lawyer may be entitled to all that (let's not debate rates here), all fair and good; but what your lawyer is not entitled to are shares of your entire income (not even profit. INCOME!), esp. since he does not share into your expenditures also.

You know who is entitled to part of your earnings? - a partner! - a real, full fleshed out partner, who shares into your entire business, your earnings, your expenditures, your liabilities. You know who isn't entitled to shares of your earnings? - everyone else! - every employee (which may or may not include lawyers btw.!), your freelance service providers (which may be the more common category for a lawyer) and your assistant, your delivery boy, your chaffeur, your mercenaries, etc.

It takes a special kind of moron (game designer) to get those two completely different concepts mixed up.

Those NPCs add nothing to my business. They don't give impulses, they don't provide me with additional business contacts, they don't haul in extra missions. All they do is fullfilling a specific task for me, a JOB, they deserve a salary, a fee... NOT A F***ING PROFIT SHARE.
