The damage the cannon of Thargoid Interceptors do to your ship through your shields is called Phasing Damage. When firing at your ship's hull directly however, it is Caustic Damage, which is what the Guardian hull reinforcements and the Meta-Alloy hull reinforcements protect against. It should not be confused with the caustic damage taken from caustic missiles, caustic clouds, enzyme missiles, or octahedral pod spores.
