Not much use for bounty hunting unless you are fixated on a specific target ship. Usually more efficient to wait for new contacts to appear than to chase after a single ship when bounty hunting.
Its more useful for assassinations as you are looking for a specific target and thus if they hyperspace out you will need to follow.
The above advise is predicated on the difference between bounty hunting and assassinations being bounty hunting is more about targets of opportunity or RES farming while assassinations are more about taking a mission to kill a specificly named ship.
