True..I timed it myself aswel, but I found that if you press 75% throttle at the 6 sec. marker there is a chance to still overshoot, I prefer to play it a little safer by hitting 75% throttle just before it hits 8 sec. or sometimes I press 50% throttle at 7 sec ETA! I find that using 50% throttle brakes or slowes down much faster then 75% and is much safer aswel.
Also if I fly straight towards an (undiscovered) star using extremely high supercruise speed, it does not tell you the distance and ETA when you are not in scanning distance yet, wich is very very dangerous when flying in excess of 300 C. in supercruise straight towards a star you could imagine! So what I always do after I've flown a long time towards a star (wich is still undiscovered or scanned) having build up extremely high SC speed..I closely watch as the star starts to slowly move in contrast to other stars (first sign the star is getting closer) then my FSD starts to slow down on its own in small increments (2nd sign ur flying towards an object)
So if still not in scanning range (I got basic scanner) I usually wait till the star has grown till about 3 times the size it was when I started the thousands of LS trip..then I throttle down to 25% just to be on the safe side and hopefully scan the damn thing so I can get an ETA so I dont plow myself into it! Traveling at high SC light speed can be sooo dangerous when you dont have an ETA or distance on an closing object...those speeds are very easily underestimated! Almost plowed myself into a (very fast) aproaching star once when I just started playing the game, just managed to evade it by maybe just a second..pfff I was sweating peanuts then! haha never making that mistake again! :D
