Quite different ships to fly and fight with. FDL has very strong shields, and is tough with military armour, very strong with fixed forward weapons, and with practice the class 4 will shine. Due to placement, gimb weapons don't work well for Fer de lance. Easier with Python, and multi role make Python a better investment (since you can switch to trade/smuggler/miner etc) and still fight as well when geared for that, and benefit from gimb weapons - ez mode. Python is the better ship, even with B upgrades. Get the Python if you are interested in maximizing and what is "best". FDL is for club members only, and it sure as hell can hold its own when done right.
