Yeah, in the right hands the gunship is an extremely capable pvp ship. Massive dps (for it's size) and the ability to equip a fighter really make it viable. That being said it's not for everyone for the reasons you mentioned above. Very slow and drifty, and rather a fat target for the pa/railgun meta.
