After flying both the Vulture and FAS, I can easily compare them side by side, and I gotta say, there are A LOT of things very similar between the two, but there are also almost as many differences. Maneuverability is the biggest standpoint. In regards to that, the Vulture is actually still a much more capable ship. Even at full speed, boost and no FA, with enough practice, you can run circles freely around an enemy and stay on their tails indefinitely. It's almost laughable to see Eagles, Imperial Eagles and even Imperial Couriers attempt to outpace and outmaneuver a Vulture.
An FAS can do similar movements but it is much more demanding due to its inertial mass, but is still quite capable in terms of 1 on 1 engagements with anything, much like a Vulture. Boosting in one of these things is absurd, and because it has a much larger power distributor than the Vulture, under full Engines, this thing recharges and can practically sustain its absurdly maximum speed for as long as you want it to. If there's ever a ship that knows how to drift in space, this is it.
In terms of lateral thrust, both the FAS and Vulture feel identical. As far as combat performance goes, man oh man does the FAS give a Vulture a run for its money. Don't get me wrong, a Vulture is still one hell of a ship but an FAS is vritually a Vulture on steroids. A larger power plant, more power efficient power distributor unit and two more hard points on it (mediums) make this thing one hell of a contender. Put two capable pilots against one another, one in a Vulture, the other in an FAS and you can bet the FAS will hold its own and probably have a much higher chance of surviving due to the fact that an FAS has much larger internal components to fit into it.
A Vulture does what it does well but an FAS does it even better, especially in the hands of a capable pilot that becomes extraordinarily comfortable with it. And while I do switch out between the Vulture and FAS, I've actually become quite accustomed to the survivability of what an FAS has to offer. The Vulture is fun, and it is capable, but the FAS is an absolute monster.
Though I am not a pilot by any means, I do know my aircrafts well enough to say this with confidence: The FAS is a ship with the looks of an F-117 Nighthawk, the swagger and soul of an F-14 Tomcat, and the brutal efficiency of destroying anything it sees like an A-10 Warthog.
If you are looking for a ship smaller than an Anaconda, Federal Corvette, or even a Python, dedicated solely for tearing into enemy ships like tin cans, look no further, because you just found that ship in the FAS.
