From Elite Dangerous Wiki

Same here. I mostly got into the game for the beauty of seeing things in space/planet surfaces and seeing some of the cooler looking ships and space stations.

Then, once I got to the Asp Explorer, I realized that the weeks of grinding I had put in just to get to that point were almost nothing in comparison to what I would have to do for some of the end-game ships and such, not even counting all the equipment and upgrades. I realize a lot of the community wants an EA "sense of accomplishment" style of gameplay where spending 4-8 months of grinding to get the best stuff is fine, but I just can't spend that many hours into something that can get very tedious after a short while, only to have fun with a new ship or toy for a day or two before having to go back to grinding for the next tier.

I had actually stopped playing months ago, but reinstalled the game when I saw that the mapping system would account for neutron stars now, hoping that it would make travelling for missions a little less grindy, then I noticed that most of the mission distances were locked in at around 22,000ly just for 5-10 million credits (2-4 for the mission, usually around 3-6 for cartography data).
