The Empire is an elective monarchy, rather than a pure hereditary monarchy, but the Emperors are elected from House Duval. Since the only other Duval we know of is Aisling, she's likely the top candidate, should anything happen to Arissa. Which is quite intesting, when you consider Aisling's powerplay faction is detrimental to Imperial interests and encourages her personality cult to flip Imperial systems to Communist and Confederate states for ease of fortification, thereby causing them to leave the Empire...
