If what you mean is your ship getting destroyed you have to pay the insurance cost for your ship. Then you have the option to either return to the last station you docked at or to start back at Trevethick Dock (I think that's how it's spelled) in LHS 3447. If you don't have enough money to pay the insurance then you have to start back with the base Sidewinder. You can check the insurance cost for your current ship on your right pannel. Other than that there are no lasting effects from being killed.
