One of the tedious parts of the game on a Commodore 64 was when you were heading to the space station and another ship appeared, which meant you could no longer skip forward to speed it up. However, with a SuperCPU accelerator plugged into the C64, you could flip the switch to Turbo and get there 20 times faster.
If you had the Docking Computer, you'd be able to go right into the station unattended. If you didn't, you'd just wait until you got a bit closer, then turn off the switch and begin the manual docking process.
There were occasional game crashes when I moved the switch, but if I had saved recently, it wasn't a big deal. Crashing my ship came from trying to fly at 20x speed when I left it in Turbo mode, but it sure was fun watching the screen spin that fast.
