I am yet to commence in E. Dangerous and no doubt will have a fair bit to learn in this 4th iteration of the game. No doubt I will begin with an Eagle or something and the lowest rankings in everything. At this point, I am not sure that I will join the multiplayer game at all - well see. But in Frontier Elite and First Encounters running on DOS, the AspX was by far my favourite ship. After using a Panther, then the biggest available vessel armed with the heaviest primary weapon, I sold it and went back to the AspX. This was the vessel I could use for long range exploration and with decent shield units and a 5 MW beam laser, it was the most effective vessel for picking fights with Imperial Vipers, on top of its versatility. I would fire upon an Imperial space station and 50 Vipers with 1 MW beam lasers would show up to engage me. After I'd destroyed 25 of them without suffering significant damage, the surviving 25 would try to escape, until I re-engaged them, after which all of these would then resume combat and likewise be destroyed. A tally of 50 Vipers in about ten minutes of dogfight was a good way to boost my combat rating. I did this once with the Panther and twice with the AspX. No other ship could perform as well in that role as the AspX. I liked the Cobra III, too, but if the AspX is as good in ED as it was in FE & FEFE - well even if you're piloting a Corvette or Gunship armed to the teeth, you might well hope it's not me flying MY AspX against you.
