no, not true. Unlike other experimental weapons,the AX multicannon turret works exactly like a normal multicannon turret. I can tell you this because I use them to kill cyclopse in my Imperial Cutter. To my knowledge it is also the only capable weapon that has the ability to actively track hearts without being fixed mount or requiring a multicrew gunner. I haven't tried the AX missile turrets yet though.
