Hi Cmdrs!

I’m very excited to announce a trailer for a project of mine called Trench Turner. I hope you enjoy the trailer as much as I enjoyed making it. I’d like to acknowledge the following people who helped bring this to life, thank you so much!

Additional thanks to members of the BBIX (Brotherhood of Bogans) squad for their support during this project and to Frontier Developments, for without, Elite would not exist! Lastly, a special thank you to *Cmdr SqueegorMcGraw* who supported me throughout this project, always listening to my incessant rambling of ideas and providing invaluable feedback on Trench Turner.

  • What is Trench Turner?*

Trench Turner is a python-script HUD overlay that supports in-game sub-light space racing in Elite Dangerous. Currently, it supports a time attack mode only with basic turn and time recording. To be effective at ‘trench turning’, you must manage your speed and your ENG distro all while fighting the spin of the Coriolis. In time attack mode, turns are determined randomly by the overlay. The script uses input from the pilot to progress the race, turn by turn. Each successful turn adds an amount of time back onto the timer, depending on how fast the turn was completed.

  • Why did I make this video?*

The video serves to share an activity I’m deeply passionate about in-game and to highlight to the developers that sub-light racing in space could be a viable game loop. CQC assets, training rings, speed power ups and superstructures could be re-purposed for racing. Something certainly worth exploring! I'm planning several deeper follow-up videos on Trench Turner to continue making a case for Elite space racing.

  • How was the video made?*

Scenes were captured with OBS in-game. Sound effects, voice lines, and music were adjusted/treated in Audacity. Music provided by Epidemic sound. Graphics were created in Affinity. Video was put together with Capcut.

Please leave feedback. The project and the trailer were, and continue to be, massive learning experiences for me. I welcome all kinds of feedback, so please share how you feel or what I could have done better.
