Thanks guys - @ spy tech: I don't think that was the issue but I will keep it in mind. @ leo mccoy - yes, this was the issue> I went and checked soem other forums who suggested a "scoot aroudn on the pad usign thrusters until it works" which I thought was sorta dumb. Thinking that through though and looking out the layout of the pad and the asist graphic, I figured it out for myself that you suggestion is the answer - tried it and have successfully docked a number of tiems since.
