I used a Dropship as a miner for some time and it is honestly a baller for the job.  Not only does it do all the things you state and still hold almost 100tons of cargo, if you get attacked you have the hardpoints to go apeshit all over anything.  2 medium and 1 large laser will shred off shields and a couple of torpedos on the last hardpoint to make quick work of any bigger ships.
