Categorization provides local editorial guidance for the independent Elite Dangerous Wiki. Apply it alongside community standards and existing local policies.
Organise by subject
Add categories that describe what the page is about, not every word or incidental feature it mentions. Follow the structure of related local articles and prefer the most useful specific category. Category pages should explain their scope and link to suitable parents.
Consistency
Avoid unnecessary duplicate categories, circular parent relationships and parallel names for the same subject. A maintenance category describes editing work, not a claim about the article's subject. Use [[:Category:Name]] when linking to a category without adding the page to it.
Changes
Discuss broad recategorisation or deletion before making it. Check affected pages and templates, and retain useful navigation when merging categories. Use Project:Categories for discussion for the local procedure.
