Trifid Nebula
Appearance

The Trifid Nebula is an emission nebula in the constellation of Sagittarius.[1] It is 5,200 ly from Sol and can be viewed from Earth with binoculars.[2] The name means 'divided into three lobes' because it has three visible dust lanes. Charles Messier discovered it on June 5, 1764.[3] It is cataloged as Messier 20, M20, or NGC 6514.
An asteroid base named Observation Post Epsilon can be found near the nebula in the Trifid Sector IR-W d1-52 system.
