Board Thread:News and Announcements/@comment-26009169-20150606015249
Hello fellow visitors and contributors!
I want to discuss the creation of a bot for the community to greater change articles at large without flooding the Recent Changes page as I have accidentally done today (sorry!).
Why a bot?
Having a user labelled as a bot won't show up under Special:WikiActivity or Special:Recent Changes unless you've checked Show Bots, which reduces clutter.
We will be able to edit huge amount of articles to fix general problems, fix missed guidelines (coming soon), remove swearing, hopefully auto-detect vandalism, revert and block user (or notify me), automatically fix typos and change word variants to en-GB and to add missing links, categories and templates.
What will it use?
The bot will make use of mainly Pywikibot (PWB) and in rare scenarios AutoWikiBrowser (AWB) which I will mainly use on my own User:SpyTec. Any faults due to the edits will result in admins temporarily banning the bot account in order to fix the problems the bot has caused and prevent it from happening in the future, the bot account will also have a link to the most active admins and the maintainer (me).
What you have to do
Criticise this post, tell me what is good and what is bad. What you would agree on and what you wouldn't agree on. We require the community's feedback to be able to create this bot, which is part of the reason why we're asking. <ac_metadata title="Important: Creation of a bot - Feedback needed!" related_topics=""> </ac_metadata>
