They mostly force you to trade. Look around for a "Rare Goods" trading guide. It's a grind, yes, but it does get you there faster.

The most common route to trade is from Lave/Leesti <-> 39 Tauri/Fujin, which yields around 1 mil/hour for about 60 units of cargo.

I know, it sounds awfully boring, but until they balance out the professions... that's how you "jump ships".
