My best guess has to do with Thargoids. Some of their attacks cause the hull of the ship to deteriorate unless treated by a specific kind of limpet. It is safer to jump away from them, then drop somewhere else to fix it so the limpet doesn't get destroyed. An emergency drop would cause 1% damage, but if it takes time to slow down and hull is at 4%, it may be better to drop.
