Engineered, it should be possible to give it a pretty solid shield. I'd wager the intent is that you put 2-3 shield boosters on it; that ought to give you a fairly healthy buffer after engineering the lot.
That low hull mass works in its favour since it puts it well within the optimal/maximum hull mass ranges of the generators it can equip. You just have to make sure nothing gets through that shield or you're proper fucked - which is where the 'then leave' part definitely comes in.
