If you dont want to pay insurance cost and not even technicaly die then all you have to do is close out your game before your ship is destroyed and dont worry if you close your game to late youll go strait to the insurance page on the next start up. Ive found the best method is to close the launcher and open task manager so the only windows open are elite dangerous executable and task manager so once youve taken more hull damage than you think is acceptable hit alt+tab and the end task and boom when you reopen the game youll be floating in space and probably not even have hull or module damage and still have all your cargo.
