I see your point but if I remember correctly FD mentioned in one of the livestreams that the Corvette will be more combat oriented, the Anaconda will be sort of the "middle", and thus the Cutter will lean a bit more towards content other than combat. So eventhough I didn't expect it to be that much of a trader, I can't say I'm suprised.
Furthermore I could say the same about the Anaconda, which is also a multipurpose ship, but didn't suit my personal play-style in combat, and I ended up selling it, going back to my Python and my Clipper.
Every ship has to have its weaknesses, so no ship is overpowered. The shields are the best in game, it has 8 utility-mounts (therefore some considerable defense), the damage is excellent, the speed is above average, the max. cargo capacity is the highest in game. And all that at the cost of jump-range, hardpoint-placement and manoeuvrability? Great if you ask me. There has to be some disadvantages compared to the other ships of its class, otherwise what's the point of a Conda and a Corvette if the Cutter is better anyway?
You should also consider the price of an A-rated Combat-Cutter is around 1 billion credits, which means only the richest of the richest will be able to afford one. Sure you want to get what you pay for, but in my opinion it would hurt the balance if a few very rich players could fly around in an invincible ship that is overpowered in any aspect and the average player has no chance of killing them.
I will certainly use the Cutter for combat if this is the final version. And should I get sick of it, it's still by far the best ship for trading.
