For in your face combat, go for the dropship, the hardpoints are close together and it's more maneuverable than you'd think. The same can be said about the clipper cause it's pitch is superb. The shields are sub par on both but they both remedy with that with either speed or sheer armour.
For trading I'd go with the clipper: it has more cargo, jump range, and speed so it's a given in this case really. hope this helps :)
