Fuel consumption is directly related to ship mass, FSD optimized weight, and distance you travel in light years. Different FSD classes have different max-fuel-per-jump as well, with 5A having 5 tons of max fuel consumption. Fuel tanks above 8T (I believe) show up as solid bars on the fuel indicator instead of the divided boxes, seen commonly on fighters.
