No, that's logical. You get the damage for dropping out of supercruise at a speed higher than 1 Mm/s. It is the same damage you also get when double-pressing the FSD (dis)engage button at high FSD speed, overiding the safety warning. However, the interdicted ship gets the same damage for the same reason, so as far as the subsequent combat is concerned, you are not at a disadvantage.

For that reason, any tips to avoid the interdiction damage are bs except that if the target submits to the interdiction by throttling their drive to zero, neither ship is damaged, because this essentially means it reduces its speed to a safe level and then does a voluntary drop. Your ship does the same in this case.

Fact remains that interdiction is another example of horrible documentation from Frontier. They really should describe which factors influence interdiction success and whether a better interdictor results in better interdiction chances. Reports on this are mixed, and hell, even I cannot tell whether by 4B interdictor interdicts better than my former 1A one. Sometimes I have the impression, but it may all be my imagination after all. There seem to be other influencing factors, but nobody appears to know them (beyond speculation).

Generally, poor technical data appears to be normal for Frontier. Check out the weapons info for the various guns. It is next to useless, with most values being similar, not being consistent and dps not being damage/shot x time (same info here on wikia). Essentially, the info the game gives you when you buy a weapon is near useless and not suitable for making a purchase decision. You need to try each weapon out, making use of the 100% refund when you find you purchased garbage. But if that is the concept, they should not provide any data at all. No data is better than fooling players with useless or even wrong data.
