Pro tip if you want to turbo rep-grind:
1) Find a system with a station in the "Damaged" state by filtering the view on the galaxy map. Make sure there are Empire/Fed allied Minor Factions at the damaged station.
2) Go to that system/damaged station with as many economy passenger cabins as possible, and you'll need a few heat sink launcher or two. (I recommend the Anaconda for this)
3) Load up on passenger rescue missions from Empire/Fed faction(s), that have REP+++ rewards and as SMALL a passenger count as possible. Board flip as required to fill up your missions, preferably before you fill up on passengers (to max out the rep grind).
4) Launch from the station, but IMMEDIATELY exit to main menu, after waiting the 20 seconds (because your ship is "in danger"), then reload into your choice of game mode. When you reload, you'll magically be at the rescue ship where your passengers need to be delivered. Your mail will have a message explaining that your ship has been magically evacuated from the damaged station by the Pilot's Federation. Turn in your passenger missions!
5) Repeat until you've got as much rep as you want!
I found that the ranks take an average of 5 full runs per level, though it is faster on lower ranks and slower on the higher ranks. (Baron/Lt. took under 4 runs, while Duke/Post Captain required over 5)
