Started gaming on the OG NES myself. Paying again after the initial purchase rubbed me all the wrong ways when it started becoming popular. To think the developers held back, just to cash in later, had the sting of betrayal. But this is not the birth of the betrayal, only an evolution.
One precurser to death by add-on's was dilution. Say a developer would come up with an awesome game idea. This developer sends his idea up chain of command. Boss loves the idea, so much so, he hand the idea off to another developer. This developers task is to split that great idea into as many different games. The travesty of it all!
The games I speak of with such thick sarcasm is Devil May Cry, Parisite Eve, and Resident Evil.
My point is, if you want to sound like a buthurt victim of industry evil you can. Your free to mislead newcomers with bleak examples comparing it with other similar games. The smarter of those newbies will see subtle hints of ED's tried and true nature and will disregard your ignorance.
