I would adivice against switching to an Asp so soon. I also had a ~10 Mill. A-Grade, Military Armor Cobra and tryed to switch to an Asp. The problem was that i couldnt buy even the most basic upgrades, nor could i rebuy the Adv. Scanner for it to go exploring.
What i did in the end was to sell the Asp again, get my Cobra back and grind another ~2 Million with it and got me Type 6 for trading and speced the Cobra exclusivly for combat (Hull Reinforcement Packages on top of the Military Armor, etc).
The Type 6 is a good step up in Trading Capacity when coming from the Cobra and even an Asp wont Haul more if not fitted exclusivly for trading which than again kills its multipurpose role. Also, the Type 6 can double as explorer and is better than the Cobra in that role. Not to mention that fitting it as a trader is dirt cheap compared to the Asp,
Which brings me to the next point: The increase in prices for upgrades between the Asp and the Cobra is rather extreme. The Asp is better than the Cobra in many regards, but it is also extremly more expensive to upgrade it. To make it work u will need AT LEAST about 15 just for the basic, better 20 Mill. And thats even with the 15% discount u can get in the Li-Systems. And that will basicly give u a low spec armed trader or explorer. To fully combat fit u will need a lot more.
Another option for pure money making would be to get an Type 7 as soon as possible as a way to make money. That one will cost u about 20 Mill with the discount and to have enough money for some basic goods. With 200t+ of Cargo space even Biowaste turns a decent profit per trip to help u get money into the bank. Not to mention other highly profitable stuff.
