Here's a bit of elementary science for you. The Earth's magnetosphere is caused by the fact that its LITHOsphere turns the entire planet into a gigantic LITHIUM battery, with the oceans serving as an electrolyte. Any water world with an ocean would have the same sort of magnetosphere, which is why water worlds are perfect for terraforming.
