A breakdown is very possible. There were some threads on this in the Frontier Forum, but 2.1 has made them obsolete.
Icy, rocky, metal rich and metallic all have very different ores available.
Rocky and metallic are very different, metal rich is a bit of a mixture of the two.
edit - added a column to the tables to show what ring types metals and minerals may be mined in. It may need some editing, as I've only done about 30 mining trips since 2.1.
A table of the materals that may be mined might also be a useful addition.
