I'd say it's personal preference. As of current weapons I'd say the Python does a great job of disabling shields due to it's large hardpoints, but when the shield is offline the Fer-de-Lance can do great amounts of damage with it's huge hardpoint with a Cannon or Plasma Accelerator. But with manouvrebility I think the Fer-de-Lance is better
Edit: Also, Fer-de-Lance has great speeds and can keep up with almost any ship in the game, which might be necessary
