The combat ability of the ships in seems to have been bashed with the nerf bat recently, but the Asp Explorer especially. That big glass cockpit was always fragile to impact weapons, but I found it was helped by reactive armour.
But now ...the moment my shields are down I start to lose weapons, and even worse, thrusters. The reactive armour makes this worse against lasers, naturally. one are the days I could put all my pips into weapons and cut loose with beam lasers, knowing my armour upgrades would hold out if my shields fell down. I have to keep them in shields, because the moment they're down its time to run or be absolutely defenseless within a couple of enemy salvos.
