Elite Dangerous Wiki:Pending changes
Pending changes protection is a selective form of page protection based on Wikipedia's pending changes system. It applies only to pages where an administrator has enabled it. It is available in the article and project namespaces.
When to use it
Administrators may use pending changes protection for sustained vandalism, copyright violations or similar disruption by new editors on pages that are edited relatively infrequently. It is not a pre-emptive measure, a general quality filter, or a way to favour one side of a content dispute. Use a proportionate expiry, record a reason and reassess the need for protection. Higher-traffic pages or other types of disruption may need a different response under the protection policy.
What editors and readers see
Changes by new editors to a protected page are saved in its history and held for review. Visitors see the most recent accepted version. Logged-in editors can inspect pending changes and continue editing the latest revision. Once a change is accepted, visitors see the accepted version. When changes are already pending, later edits may also need review, even if made by a confirmed editor. Reviewers should check the complete outstanding difference before accepting it.
Accounts become autoconfirmed after four days and ten edits. Established users' edits can be automatically accepted when there are no earlier changes awaiting review. Reviewer and administrator permissions allow appropriate users to review pending edits. Special:PendingChanges lists changes awaiting review. The pending-changes padlock indicates that protection is enabled; a page can be protected even when no review is currently outstanding.
Reviewing
A review is a check for obvious vandalism, attacks, copyright violations, biographies-of-living-persons issues and other clear policy breaches. Acceptance is not a guarantee that the content is correct, properly sourced or complete. Do not accept an edit that contains a clear policy violation. Revert or correct it, explain the problem when appropriate, and follow the ordinary dispute-resolution process for good-faith disagreements. Review the entire set of changes since the accepted version, not just the most recent edit. Do not use review to favour a viewpoint or settle an editorial dispute.
Administrators may grant or remove the reviewer permission when appropriate. Requests and relevant experience can be discussed at Project:Requests for permissions. Review decisions and changes to protection settings are logged.
Current access settings restrict anonymous editing and public account creation. Those restrictions are separate from pending changes: the workflow applies to registered users who can edit under the wiki's existing access rules.
