in actual testing, i find the ax turrets do more damage then standard do to both shields and hull vs normal gimbled or turrets, they are quite nice for what they are, the rank 3 turrets are brutal for pve, power/distro/heat to damage even the rank2's are damn good(use one on the bottom of my clipper more then my maxxed out high ammo pack hounds, gimbled cannon or maxxed out efficent beams... :)
