Hi guys! I don't have any opinion on promotions and access level, so am happy to continue to contribute with my current access level. I just don't want that level of responsibility!
I do have a couple of questions though:
1. @Univero - you said to upload images in PNG. But some older browsers (specifically IE) have trouble showing PNG's. Also, PNG's don't compress very well at high resolutions. I'm happy to re-upload any images I've previously uploaded as PNG's, but I want to check if this is a 'policy' or just a recommendation for future images?
2. I'm going to split out the 'Materials' page I've been working on, because it's too long now. I'll split it into the 3 major material groups (Raw, Manufactured, and Data) leaving the main 'Materials' page as a high level summary. Let me know if you have any objections to this.
3. I'm going to try and get all the Engineer Blueprints on to the Wiki. It'll take a few weeks, and will require some forward planning. I don't like how the current pages summarise them as 'weapon enhancements', and feel it should be categorised similar to how Inara does it. If you guys have any strong opinions on how this should be organised, let me know.
Finally, thanks for putting this Wiki together. I know it's quiet at times, and could definitely benefit from more contributors, but I guess most people just prefer to spend their time playing the game than writing about it. ;-)
Do you think dropping a post in the Elite Dangerous Reddit to request volunteers would be worth considering?
Cheers!
Rob.
Oh trust me, I have tried getting more contributors through Reddit and Official forums (I am lead moderator on the Reddit for the record). So far we have not attracted a single one to the Wiki. Possibly like 1 edit each from 2-3 people.
For your points however:
1. PNGs are not an issue anymore. Older Internet Explorer pages are almost non-existant, and most of the time they don't need an image to load anyway if they are somehow on an older browser. I am also quite sure that Fandom has backwards compatible image generators if that were ever to happen as well
2. Definitely. If you think it might be better then feel free to do it. As long as it is easy to switch between and stuff, like having a short description on Materials page with a {{Main}} template underneath the subheading for the page.
3. How does Inara do it and how would you apply it to the wiki?
And yeah, most people are readers, not contributors. Actually contributing to the wiki is more work than any other service I've done to the community, requries lots of thinking for new articles, structure. Also on how to structure and word the article themselves.
If you feel like you're missing any templates, feel free to shout and I can give suggestions or try and create one for you (if it's not too advanced)
Cheers
