So in order to see this "map", one has to jump through the following hoops:

Unlock Professor Palin "pain"—which requires flying at least 5000 LYs out from the your starting position and back again. Then find any given number of Unknown Artefacts, shooting them and scooping up at least 25 Unknown Fragments. Take them all to Palin.

Buy a corrosive-resistant two-space cargo hold from Palin's base.

Fly around the universe. Find another Unknown Artefact.

Fly around some more. Find an Unknown Probe.

Fly out and find a surface site (which you probably don't want to do in open play at the risk of getting ganked by imbeciles).

Enter site. Scan the Unknown Links.

Stare at the 'Oooh, swirly!' Star Map.

Leave with an utterly hollow sense of fulfilment.
