Please state which naval measurement system and specification that is being used then. For instance, the units of ft, lb, miles, inches, btu, horsepower etc are using Imperial units, while meters, newtons, joules, km, etc are using the SI system. If there is some international naval measurement system or standard that can be quoted with a name other than naval standard then you might have more of a point and changes will be allowed. For instance, the North Atlantic Treaty Orginization (NATO) has standards that govern many things, such as the STANAG standard that specifies the dimensions for which a 5.56mm rifle magazine must be in order to be interchangable with weapons that meet the STANAG standard. If there is a ship size judging standard then it should have a name and will be able to have its judging criteria examined. Otherwise without naming an defined military, civilian, or international standard then listing by what criteria the "largest" is judged is required, and both by volume and by length become appropriate standards regardless of personal feelings that something should be labeled Xth largest from arguments that boil down to "because I say so".
