The clipper is a multipurpose ship. and it costs 8 mil more. not to mention the larger internals which cost much more. 

this is a short range combat ship with when upgraded can get lots of armor. my FDS has around 1000 hull to soak up shots and it dominates in RES. if anything it needs better shields. they are too week for its size and manouverability. 

This ship is underrated, just try it.

and btw you spelled double wrong.
