Thanks DNYI, so to make it short Frontier decides in its flavor texts the ships role and that is what they are called in the WIKI as well.  And even thre are no fixed ruels. Since noone stops you from using a comabt ship for exploration or a trader for combat (if it is fun or makes sense is a different issue) the classification is mainly a help for shopping or to find ships in the database.

As I wrote before my defimniton for multipurpose is if I have 6 or more internals and can jump 15Lj+ in a ship, while still having adquate weapons and systems. I am a packrat and never can decide what to do so, just having the otpion to carry cargo on my combat ship is essential as is having a discovery scanner.
