Honestly, it all just depends on how you're maximizing. I'm a new players but I find that a lot of the bigger and meaner ships carry more of a bounty (like anacondas / corvettes / clippers). I used my Kill Scanner on a Anaconda and got an additional 100K credits on top of it's base 100K bounty. Like the other commenter said, Nav points are key. But in terms of ranking, I think it does matter on the price of the ship and it's formidability.
