Don't think of ED as a single game. Think of it as a "choose your goal" game. Want to bounty hunt? find a nav beacon or a RES (resource extraction site, for the "less complicated"), and wait. want to go mining? Find a planet with rings and drop out near the asteroids. Want to trade? do some research about rare goods trading. want to be politically active, and do things such as get a free 50 million CR a week, get access to superior weapons, shields, ships, benefits, and generally feel like a God among peasants? do Powerplay.
