Unfortunately Life is never that simple and elite defently isn't that simple.   All ships have a hidden stat i belive it is called hull thickness.   Hull Thickness reduces all incomeing damage by a fixed amount but the hull penatration rateing on weapons nulifies the hull Thickness stat.  That brings us to the core problem with packhounds.  Explosive damage has 0 Penatration and because packhounds do so little damage Per-shot it has a hard time overcoming the hull thickness of any large ship.   as a result packhounds will do almost no damage at all adgist anything bigger then a viper or cobra.
