The Federal Corvette is the smallest warship in the Federal Navy, fulfilling a very similar role to what the Imperial Cutter does for the Imperial Navy. Just because the Corvette is the smallest warship in the Federal Arsenal, that does not mean it is the smallest warship in the game. That particular honor would go to the Anacond, ehich is in fact smaller than the Corvette, or the Python, if you're willing to stretch the term "Warship" a considerable amount. The Corvette is, in fact, the second largest player-pilotable ship in the game, the largest being the Imperial Cutter.
